Early Diagnostic and Intervention Centre

The Early Diagnostic and Intervention Centre (E.D.I.C.) attached to the E.N.T. Department for the assessment of hearing handicapped at Shillong Civil Hospital started at State Resource Centre on Disability Affairs, Shillong, Civil Hospital on 12th July 2016. Subsequently, Other Early Diagnostic and Intervention Centres (EDICs) for the Hearing Handicapped, were established in the Civil Hospitals of: West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin; West Jaintia Hills, Jowai and West Garo Hills, Tura - the first of its kind in the Country under a Government Establishment. 

The E.D.I.C. was sponsored jointly by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of India and State Society for the Implementation of Rehabilitation Services for Persons with Disabilities (S.S.I.R.P.D.), State Resource Centre, Civil Hospital Shillong. 

The aim of these centres is to facilitate early detection of disabilities in children and treat them before they become major health problems or disabilities for such children.
