State Resource Centre on Disability Affairs

An integrative network made for providing service and assistance to people with disability. Meghalaya’s State Resource Centre on Disability Affairs facilitates various Rehabilitation Welfare Programmes. Facilities like Manpower Training, Public Awareness, Prevention and Early Intervention of Disability Certificates, and Manpower Training of Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) are included in the welfare programme.

UDID

Unique Disability ID for Persons with Disabilities project is being implemented with a view of creating a National Database for PwDs and to issue a Unique Disability Identity Card to each PwD. The Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities project has been initiated in the state of Meghalaya, since December 2017. It is a joint venture of the Office of the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, the Government of Meghalaya, and the SRCDA, which is also the Implementing Agency of the Project in Meghalaya.

Meritorious Scholarship

A bold and benevolent initiative of the State Society for the Implementation of Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities (SSIRPD), State Resource Centre on Disability Affairs, Civil Hospital, Shillong, started with the focus on uplifting the Students with Disabilities from their plight of inequality, competition in mainstream education & neglect by various sections of society.

State Resource Centre on Disability Affairs (SRCDA) along with the State Society for the Implementation of Rehabilitation for the Persons with Disabilities (SSIPRD) was established in the year 2000-2001 in Meghalaya. What grants do I get for being a disabled person in Meghalaya?

As a disabled person living in Meghalaya, you will be receiving grants and assistance from SRCDA in the form of scholarships, a registered ID that keeps your data safe, you will receive comprehensive services in terms of early detection, prevention, rehabilitation, and counseling according to your disabilities, you will also be supplied free aids and appliances based on your disability. The EDIC under the SRCDA can provide early detection services of hearing impairment especially in children and give valuable treatment before they become major health problems or disabilities for such children.

How do I register as a disabled person in Meghalaya?

You can register yourself or your family member who has any form of disability by applying for a Unique Disability ID (UDID) or by applying for a disability certificate. 

What are the different government schemes available for disabled people in Meghalaya? How can I apply for these?

The different schemes available under SRCDA for disabled people in Meghalaya are as follows:

  • Meritorious Scholarship for disabled students

How do I apply for the scholarship as a student with disability?

  • You can fill & submit the Meritorious Scholarship Form (along with all relevant documents) at the 4 District Resource Centres on Disability Affairs located in Shillong, Tura, Nongstoin and Jowai and at the Offices of the District Social Welfare Officer in all the districts. The dates of submission of forms will be advertised well before the stipulated time

What is UDID?

  • Uniquely identifies a Person with Disability (PwD) across India
  • Creates a single National PwD Database
  • Issues each PwD a Disability Certificate and UDID Card in accordance with the RPwD Act 2016
  • Provides a single uniform Disability Certificate across India

How do I register for a UDID?

  • Visit any UDID Office attached to the District Civil Hospital in the 11 (eleven) districts 
  • Fill the UDID Registration Form along with documents (photographs, EPIC Card, etc)
  • Get assessed by a Doctor and Specialist
